PARALYMPIC AMBITIONS
WDBS as part of the WPBSA has aspirations to take its rightful place as one of the world’s great sports on the Olympic and Paralympic programme. There can be no question of its importance as a global sport. There are around 110 countries with national governing bodies and competitive snooker is watched on television in at least 90 countries, exceeding many sports which are already on the programme.
Many sports receive significant funding from governments around the world for development work and to gain Olympic medals. The WPBSA’s push is for snooker to be treated on an equal footing with other sports around the world.
The WPBSA is part of the World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS), an umbrella organisation to bring together all billiard sports around the world. It is likely that a successful bid would include not only snooker but pool and three cushion billiards.
