Cuban Independence Day

May 20, 1902

This holiday marks the independence of Cuba from Spain.

The United States went at war against Spain to help free the Cubans.

The United States helped Cuba draft a constitution after they defeated Spain.

This is no longer a national holiday in Cuba due to the fact that they are now communist.

Celebrations

School children walk through the streets with flags.

Cuban-Americans that have left Cuba celebrate in the United States.

Parades and gatherings are held in honor of the "unofficial" holiday.

It used to be celebrated in Cuba.

It is now celebrated in the United States

in places such as Florida.

Yo no soy cubano-americano. Voy a los desfiles, aunque. Distinto de aquel, yo no celebro la día de independencia cubana. Pienso que esta bien que tienen la celebración. Es una buena manera de celebrar su herencia.
