CT CAROTID AND CEREBRAL

ANGIOGRAPHY

WHAT IS CT CAROTID AND CEREBRAL ANGIOGRAPHY??

•CT Carotid and cerebral angiography is the study of neck arteries(Carotid arteries) and arteries of brain(cerebral arteries) ,(Circle of willis) by using CT SCANNER .

INSTRUMENTS USED FOR ANGIOGRAPHY?•CT SCANNER•PRESSURE INJECTOR•CONTRAST MEDIA•SYRINGES•NORMAL SALINE•DEFRIBILLATORS AND EMERGENCY DRUGS TROLLEY•OTHER MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR CANNULA INSERTION(gauze piece, needles etc.)

PATIENT PREPARATION

•4-5 hrs of fasting required.•Sedation is required in case of unstable patient.•History of allergy is taken.•Previous patient record is checked.•Consent to be filled by the guardian of patient.

INDICATIONS:-

•Aneurysm•Narrowing of arteries in the brain•Abnormal blood vessels.•Narrowing or blockage of carotid arteries.•Stenosis• To determine future risk of stroke•Stricture of the Carotid arteries.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

•Pregnancy•Allergic to Contrast media.•Weak kidney function.(Creatnine level too high)

BRAIN ARTERIES(CEREBRAL ARTERIES OR CIRCLE OF WILLIS)

NECK ARTERIES OR CAROTID ARTERIES

PROCEDURE

Cannula is inserted if required.Plain CT images are obtained of neck and brain.Normal saline 25ml and 100ml contrast is used.If creatinine is normal then omnipaque is given else visipaque is used.Contrast is then injected by the help of pressure injector.Images are then obtained of the arteries.Post processing and VRT images are produced using special 3D ,4D applications.Observation for at least 1hr.
