Literacy

Word Study

• "Word study" is an alternative to traditional spelling instruction. It is based on learning word patterns rather than memorizing unconnected words.

Writing - Units of Study

• Argumentation • Narrative• Factual information with support

Math

Units will include: Factors & Multiples, Multiplication and Division, Geometry, Solving Word Problems, Fractions, Decimals, Measurement Conversions, Area, Number Sense with larger numbers and Proportions.

Science - Units of Study• Ecosystems :Animal Adaptations• Energy: Conservation & Transfer• Earth History: Fossils• Molecular Biology: Nutrition• Forces & Motion• Matter: Properties & Change• Earth in the Universe: Phases of the

• Regions of North Carolina (Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Mountain)

Homework Policy

• Our expectation is students will have homework nightly Mon-Thurs (reading, and Math; Science/Social Studies to be assigned as curriculum requires)

• Parents are expected to review agendas daily for assignments and, if requested, sign daily

• Practicing multiplication/division facts should be done as a daily assignment as well

Discipline Policy

• School Expectations:– Be Safe– Be Responsible– Be Respectful

Discipline Policy

• It is required that students follow these School Expectations, in all areas of the school (classroom, hallway, bathroom, cafeteria, etc).

• Each classroom uses a clip up/clip down chart to monitor behavior. Students clip up when they exhibit positive choices in all areas. Clipping down gives the students a chance to reflect on their behavior.

4th Grade Reminders

• Early dismissals prior to 2:30• Send an email or note for early

dismissals• Send in notes for all absences • Must have note for changes in

transportation• No checks accepted under $25
