Credit Sequence Analysis

The title of the film is shown in a black and silver/white gradient font that is widely recognisable.

The background is black to make the title of the film stand out as the prominent focal point in this shot

This is edited to make it seem as though the title of the film is being engulfed by what looks like a black liquid, similar to that seen in other shots in the credit sequence

Most shots in the credit sequence are close up shots to capture the movement of the black liquid

A computer keyboard is used within this shot because the shape of it allows them to capture the black liquid moving in interesting ways through the gaps of the keyboard.

The font is white to create contrast with the dark background and make the text easy to read.

By keeping the close ups in black and white, the highlights and shadows on the mouth are more prominent

The first use of obvious colour in the sequence is a bright and vibrant orange/yellow of a flame.

Fire has connotations of danger which gives the audience a hint at what to expect from the film itself.

The same flame is then shown between black and white shots, falling through darkness.

“Immigrant song”- Karen O

The immigrant song, originally by Led Zeppelin is a perfect song for the credit sequence for “The girl with the Dragon tattoo” because Karen O’s voice is haunting, heightening the feelings created by the music. The heavy drum line resembles the sound of a beating heart, creating suspense and tension.
