Purpose #3

Created to Become Like Jesus

Philippians 3:13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead…

1. Focus.

Becoming like Jesus means…

What is the one thing you can do, that by doing that

everything else becomes easier or unnecessary?

(Keller, Gary; Papasan, Jay: The ONE Thing )

a. Must understand that multitasking is a lie.

b. Must not confuse activity with progress.

c. Must be mindful of the drift.

2. Forget.

Epilanthanomai: to forget, neglect, to overlook,

especially the effects that go with failing to notice

Mathew 5:44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for

those who persecute you!

45 In that way, you will be acting as

true children of your Father in

heaven.

Two areas of intentional forgetfulness:

a. Positive things that happened

to you.

b. Negative things that happened

to you.

Ezekiel 18:22

All their past sins will

be forgotten…

3. Forward.

Going forward is risky. God honors, God

honoring risk.

We must minister based on imagination, not

memory.

Deuteronomy 1:6 “When we were at Mount Sinai, the Lord our God

said to us, ‘You have stayed at this mountain long enough. 7 It is time

to break camp and move on…

Familiar ≠ Holy

Familiar ≠ Better

Familiar ≠ Productive

Mindful of three things:

Drift. Morph. Settle.

Philippians 3:13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead…

You have the choice:

Who you surround yourself with.

Who you allow in your space.

What you allow in your brain.
