During CPR you must:•Perform chest compressions•Ensure and maintain an open airway•Ventilate
When to begin CPR:•Check ABCs
Effective CPR:•Patient supine on hard surface•Compress smoothly•Proper depth•Allow recoil
Gives heart chance to refill•Watch for rise and fall of chest when ventilating
• Limit interruptions to no more than 10 seconds
Moving the patient
Hypothermia• Take extra time to check for pulse• They’re not dead until they are warm and
dead
Stopping CPR:•Only a physician can order CPR to be stoppedOtherwise you can stop CPR if:•Pulse is regained•Pulse AND respirations are regained•You turn your care over to someone of equal or higher level of training
• You turn your care over to a physician• You are exhausted and are no longer able to
continue
