Gifted and Talented Courses

• GT courses are for students who are already identified as GT learners. You may only select GT courses in the areas you are identified in (math/science, LA/SS, or All subjects)

Reminder About Middle School Requirements:

• All learners will take iExplore in the 7th grade as one of their electives

• All learners must have two years of PE and/or Athletics in middle school

Core Courses

PE/AthleticsPE: Learners will participate in activities such as kickball, badminton, tennis, volleyball and basketball. Also includes fitness component.

Athletics:• Sports: Football (boys), Volleyball (girls), Basketball, Track, Cross Country, Tennis (*7th

period for a selection of players. All others practice before and after school) • and Soccer (*soccer is not during the school day)

• Must participate in TWO sports during the school year• Must have a physical BEFORE the first day of school An Athletic Parent meeting will be held before school starts

• If you make the team, practices are before or after school for the sport that is in season:

• 7th grade - 6:30 a.m. through 1st period• 8th grade - 7th period until 5:00 p.m.

ElectivesBand (7th/8th): Continue learning to play the instrument from 6th grade. Director interview for students new to band in 7th grade.

Choir (6th/7th/8th): Performance class where learners develop the basic skills of proper singing.

ElectivesArt A(6th/7th/8th): Draw, paint, sculpt, use printmaking techniques and introduction to graphic art.

Art B (7th/8th): Prerequisite: Art A Learners will enhance their skills in drawing, painting, pastels, charcoal, printmaking, digital art, ceramics, sculpture, and researching art.

3D Art (7th and 8th): Learners will create 3-dimensional artworks. Promotes self-expression and creativity.

Art 1 Honors (8th): Prerequisite: Art B THIS IS A HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT COURSEArt I is an introductory studio course providing learners with experience in a variety of media.

ElectivesTheater B (7th/8th): More in depth study of theater. Focus on improving performance and technical skills (no prerequisite)

Theater C (8th): Audition and Director approval

Gardening (8th): Learners will assist in the planting, cultivation and harvesting of crops while practicing sustainable living concepts such as composting.

ElectivesStudy Skills (6th/7th/8th): Learners will have the opportunity to develop and strengthen good study habits, and will work independently on assignments presented in the general curriculum.

Building Young Leaders (6th/7th/8th): a fun, character building course centered around providing tools for our students to grow into the role of leadership

Outdoor Adventures (7th/8th): Learners are taught life-long skills by using integrated curriculum of science, math, writing, critical thinking skills, and computer technology. The focus is on outdoor activities

ElectivesCoding (8th): Learners will develop their computational thinking skills in this application based course. Learners will formulate problems that allow computers and other assistive technologies to help solve them.

STEM (8th ): The STEM course engages learners in problem-solving in the areas of engineering, computer science, technology and health science. Learners will employ engineering-design thinking to create technological devices to address a need.

Media (7th/8th): explore the foundations of media, broadcasting and communications, and animation.

SPANISH I Honors: (8th )

Note: This course credits a learner with 2 semesters (1 credit) of high school Foreign Language and will count towards high school GPA. The content of the course, while addressing the same basic curriculum as Spanish I, will be instructed with additional emphasis on the development of critical-thinking skills to strengthen oral proficiency. This is an excellent course for learners desiring an in depth study of Spanish and a strong foundation for Pre-AP Spanish II.

2. Applications do not come out until March 22, 20213. Applications are due back by April 1, 2021 @ noon

CBE testing dates:1. April 29- if taking only 1 exam, you will sign up for this date2. June 1- is for the 2nd exam if taking 2
