AGREEMENT ON SCOPE

4

WHAT IS A (PUBLIC) EVENT?

• Something that happens at a particular place and time (consensus of sources)

• … organised by an agent for a particular purpose (exclude natural disasters)

• … and is of interest to a general audience. (public)

5

USE CASES

6

POSSIBLE USE CASES?

• Embedded semantics (e.g. microdata, RDFa, JSON-LD) to improve the way a website is represented in search

engine results

Adding metadata to websites increases the visibility of events in search engines

• Information exchange between e-government systems or data portals

Published events can easily be reused and distributed by third parties

7

POSSIBLE USE CASES?

• Finding related public events

Events that have the same target audience can be retrieved

• Planning a public event

Avoid overlap with other popular events

Avoid several public events targeting the same audience in a short timespan

• Find a good location to host an event

Retrieve similar events to plan back-to-back. E.g., a conference following a workshop on the same subject.

• Any others?
