Web Content Management

• Web Content Management provides workflow, versioning, and publishing processes around pages.

• Each page is one of three default publishing content types: Page, Article Page, and Welcome Page or any content types that extend the defaults.

• Publishing content type contains columns that define information that can appear on a page through the use of field controls and a pointer to page layout that will be used to draw the page.

Field Controls

• Field controls have code to display render time and edit time modes, and typically retrieve the information to display from page properties.

• Developers can extend and create default controls (controltemplates/SharePoint_Publishing_defaultformtemplates.ascx).

Page Layouts and Master Pages

• Page Layout is a content page that uses a specific master

• Page layouts can only be stored at root site master page and layouts gallery.

Personal Site/User Profile Purpose

• Personal site – a site collection dedicated for lists and documents of a particular user

• User Profile shows other users– person’s expertise– contact, organizational, and social networking

information

• One can find a user profile either by searching for it or by clicking on the link next to a document or an item that a person posted.

• Search syntax in SharePoint is the same as on desktop search or Microsoft Live search

• + and - characters allow users to filter out search results

example:

–keyword – excludes the keyword

+keyword – keyword must be included

Policy Scopes

• Administrators can create a policy for the site collection and then connect a policy to a specific content type or a list (which copies the policy)

• Administrators can also create a policy at the content type or list level and later export it other places.
