Precautions

1. Concentrated Hydrochloric acid is very corrosive to your skin and body tissues.

2. Note: If you touch it or it spills, notify me IMMEDIATELY. Goggles ON at all times

3. No loose clothing, use cotton, tie hair back

Procedure

1. Clean most of the penny with steel wool. Get it as shiny as possible

2. Carefully SLIP the penny into the evaporating dish with HCl

forceps, rinse with water

Procedure• DO NOT ALLOW THE Secret Solution TO

BOIL. If it begins to do so remove the heat• Wait until the penny has turned completely

silver-Call me for the go ahead to proceed to the next step

• Gently clean the Secret Solution off of the Silver Penny

Procedure• Gently heat the Silver Penny with the Bunsen

Burner by rotating it in and out of the flame with the Tongs until the Silver Penny has been converted to Gold

• Figure out a way to determine if it is Gold
