4Childrenusesaholisticapproachtoaddresstheneedsofvulnerablechildrenandtheirfamilies.4Childrenprovidesintegratedandcomprehensiveservicesthroughdevelopingtechnicalguidanceontopicareassuchasmentalhealth,earlychildhooddevelopment,andpreventingandrespondingtoviolenceagainstchildren.Incountryprojectsthatareprovidingdirectservices,4Childrendrawsonthisguidanceandtoapplyqualitycasemanagementpractices,whichensurethatchildrenandtheirfamiliesareabletoaccessalltheyneedtobehealthy,safe,stable,andschooledbeforeexitingtheprogram.

4Childrenbuildstheevidencebaseforeffectivecareandprotectioninterventionsthroughrigorousoperationsresearchandevaluationsofpastandcurrentinterventions.Fromimpactevaluationsontheeffectofparentinginterventions,longitudinalresearchonsocialprotectiontocasestudiesoncasemanagement,4Childrenusesevidencetodocument‘whatworks’.Thisisthenusedtoinformnationalpoliciesforvulnerablechildren,andinfluencethedesignoffutureinterventions.

4Childrenisuniquelypositionedtobuildevidenceonwhatworks,applylearningdirectlytoprogramimplementationandinformdevelopmentofglobalguidanceandpoliciesfororganizationsandgovernmentworkingwithchildren.Theprojectisinformingnext-generationprogrammingthroughmanagingplatformssuchaswww.ovcsupport.organdcollaboratingwithrelatedglobalnetworkssuchastheGlobalSocialServiceWorkforceAlliance,andtheBetterCareNetwork.

HowwedoitTocultivatesustainabilityandcohesionofnationalandsubnationalsocialservicesystems,4Childrenisbuildingcountryownershipthroughactiveengagementwithstakeholdersinnationalchildwelfareandprotectionsystems.Throughbuy-insfromUSAIDcountrymissions,4Childrenisprovidingcustomizedsupporttostrengthensocialsystemsinmorethantwelvecountries.

Theoverallgoalofthenational-level,five-year4ChildreninterventionintheDemocraticRepublicofCongo(DRC)istostrengthenanHIV-sensitivesocialwelfaresystemtoprovideavitalsafetynetforchildrenandfamiliesmadevulnerablebyHIVandotheradversities.4Childrenisimplementingapackageofserviceswhichincludescasemanagement,mappingandstrengtheninghealthandsocialservicesreferralsystemsforchildrenaffectedbyHIVandAIDSandtheircaregivers;strengtheningcaregivers’abilitiestoprovideanurturingandprotectiveenvironment;andimprovingthehousehold’sfinancialstabilitytoensurethatchildrenandcaregiversareenrolledandmaintainedinneededtreatmentandsocialservices.

InNigeria,4ChildrenisprovidingtechnicalassistancetoimplementingpartnersincarryingoutresponsibletransitionofOVC,households,communities,localgovernmentareasandstatesaspartofPEPFAR3.0priorities.Toensureresponsibleexitandtransition,4Children’sactivitiesarefocusedondevelopingstrategiesandtoolsforimprovedhouseholdeconomicstrengtheningandparenting.Wearealsofocusedonstrengtheninglinkagesbetweencommunity-basedandclinic-basedOVCservicesforimprovedservicedeliveryandinclusionofchildrenlivingwithHIV.
