AdvantagesThere are several potential benefits of
consultants to those who employ them:If properly managed and empowered,
internal consulting groups evaluate
engagement on projects in light of thecorporation's strategic and tacticalobjectives.
Often, the internal consultant requires lessramp up time on a project due to familiaritywith the corporation, and is able to guide aproject through to implementation a step
that would often be too costly if an externalconsultant were used.

DisadvantagesThe internal consultant may not bring theobjectivity to the consulting relationship that
an external firm can.
An internal consultant also may not bring tothe table best practices from other
corporations. A way to mitigate this issue is torecruit experience into the group and/orproactively provide diverse training to internalconsultants.
Internal consultants may face corporatepolitics just as any group in an organisation.
Where the consulting industry is strong andconsulting compensation high, it can be
