TYPES OF COLLOCATION

1. adverb + adjectiveit has been widely discussed all over the world

2. adjective + nounThe doctor ordered him to take regular exercise.

3. 3. noun + nounMr. Smith closes mirror of car

4. noun + verbThe bomb went off when he started the car engine.

5. verb + nounI always try to do my homework in the morning, after making my bed.

6. verb + expression with prepositionWe had to return home because we had run out of money.

7. verb + adverbI still remember vividly my years in America.

FIXED EXPRESSIONS  A fixed expression is a little like a

secret code that allows access to a club that not everyone can enter.

Those are the examples:

Don’t teach your grandmother to suck the egg.

He will come to no good.

You are still green.

Let’s forgive and forget .

All of a sudden.

IDIOMS

  a phrase where the words together have a meaning that is different from the dictionary definitions of the individual words.

Examples :

Don’t give me any of your lip

She caught my eye

He has one foot in the grave
