Obesity rate in 2011

Over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in America have tripled. Today, nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese.

Dangers of obesity

The first causesof death are diet and obesityrelated diseases.

Being obese makes you also a target to jokes, pranks etc … which can lead in some cases to depression.

Unhealthy food

Children eat less home cooked meal than before. There is no access to fresh food in low-income and difficult neighbourhood.

They eat more junk food than before and have meals in bigger proportions.

Fast food everywhere ! It Is a known fact that fast food are a

cause of gain of weight. It’s fattening, but easy to access and good.

Lack of activity

Children exercise less and less.Gym classes are being cut down

With technology, children rather stay at home than play outside.

Rise of technology

With the video game station and computers, children are less and less willing to go outside, they have fun inside

They can have a “social life” with networks such as facebook, twitter ...

Let’s move! is a movement created byMichelle Obama in order to fightChildhood obesity in 2010. The purpose is to reduce obesity in one generation.

Everybody is concerned This program concerns

everyone : children, parents, schools, elected officials, the community.

They all can help fight obesity with simple steps.

Eating healthy

Let’s Move! offers parents and caregivers the tools, support and information they need to make healthier choices while instilling healthy eating habits

Education

School and parents specially must teach children about eating healthy, vegetables.

Parents must be a role model.

Eating at school

Most of children eats at school their lunch and breakfast. So it is important to make this food healthy

In 2012 the U.S. Department of Agriculture released new rules that will boost the nutritional quality of the meals

Buying healthy food

Wal-Mart committed to open new shops in difficult neighbourhoods to easy the access to fresh food

Let’s Move! aims to increase opportunities for kids to be physically active, both in and out of school . Children have to get their 60 minutes of play.

ParentsParents should be more involved in their child activities and support them : - join a sport team-Volunteer to help with afterschool physical activities-Limit TV and computer time-Play with your child at the park

Schools Schools have to maintain PE and provide

activities outside PE. They have to provide qualified school

professionals who are trained in teaching methods to engage students in PE

Active community

Community can make their streets safer with programs like Safe Routes to Schools or

(example of the walking school bus).

They can also make parks more available

Little changes can make big differences.
