Chapter 5 #1) Why did Rutherford’s atomic modelneed to be replaced?
Rutherford’s model lookeda bit like a solar system
It didn’t explain such things as why elementsgive off light of specific colors when heated:Example: fireworks, iron
That electrons each containa specific amount of energy as defined by their orbit. The further out the electron orbits, more energy the electronhas. Orbits are fixed distances.
#2) What was the basic new proposalin the Bohr model?
#3) What does the quantum mechanicalmodel determine about electrons in atoms?
That electrons can only orbit in very specificenergy levels, they cannot orbit BETWEEN theselevels.
#4) How do two sublevels of the sameprinciple energy level differ from each-other?
The orbitals are shapeddifferently.Play Chem ASAP from PHschool

P-orbital
#5 How can electrons in an atom move fromone energy level to another?

#6) The energies of electrons are saidto be quantized. Explain what that means.
Each electroncontains in itsorbital a veryspecific amountor “quantum”of energy. If anelectron gains orloses energy, itmust change its orbital.
#7) How many orbitals are in the following sublevels?a. 3p sublevel
b. 2s sublevel
c. 4p sublevel
d. 3d sublevel
e. 4f sublevel
