Chapter 11

Lesson No. 11.2

Pages 712-714Attributes of Three-Dimensional Shapes

In this lesson we will identify and describe three-dimensional shapes according to the number of faces, edges, and vertices.

Start the lesson by describing the cube(bring a real object to work on

- All the faces of the cube are squares and the same size.

- Count the sides of the cubes.- The children should count 6 sides.

- Face : the cube has 6 faces

- Edge: 12 edges where two

faces meet

- Vertex : 8 vertices where two

edges meet

rectangular prism

- Two faces of the cube are squares and 4 faces are rectangular.

- Count the sides of the rectangular prism.- The children should count 6 sides.

rectangular prism

- Face : the rectangular prism

- has 6 faces

- Edge: 12 edges where two faces

meet

- Vertex : 8 vertices where two

edges meet

In order to solve this page Remind children the dashed

lines also need to be counted as edges, and the place

where these lines meet also needs to be counted as a

vertex.

Exercise 5

In this exercise children must determine what type of solid

was traced just by viewing the faces.

Exercise 6In this exercise Children will need to recognize the difference among a rectangular prism’s faces, edges, and vertices..
