BOOK SUMMARY It’s chapter portraits an epic life of young entrepreneur and his brothers who once started a business from selling chips in nearby theatres to a 1000 crore sweets business empire called “Balaji Wafers”

Initially business started as Potato Chips manufacturer and distributor but gained a hand in Nankeen and other local recipe while competing with multi national companies.

EARLY BIRTH OF A BUSINESS During 1974, 17 year old Chandubhai and his brothers started their business by selling snacks, soft drinks, chips, namkeen to cinemagoers at Astron Cinema Theatre, Rajkot.

Later they bought the canteen business of Astron Cinema for contract basis. And sold snacks, wafers, soft drinks, namkeen.

During this period they even started to make their own snacks and wafers and sell through the canteen stores. They named it ‘Balaji’

EARLY INVESTMENTS The business of canteen store was started with sum of Rs. 20000 from Chandhubhai’s father who sold his land for starting any kind of business.

During the sale of homemade wafers, snacks to local merchants, Chandhubhai and his brothers had to purchase a rickshaw from their Oil Merchant on loan.

During the initial stage of production Balaji Wafers had opt for loan from SBI to expand business with “TAWA”

During 1992, Chandubhai had brought in wafer-making plant costing Rs.50 Lakh.

IMPACT OF THE NEW ENTERPRISE

The “Balaji Wafers” became the most sought out business firm

The enterprise has share of 65% of share in the domestic market in 5 states.

And standing as a competitior against Muti-National Corporations like Pepsi, Lays etc.

The company has a annual revenue of Rs. 3 crore.

“Balaji Wafers” stands itself with its unique taste and product diversification.
