Cervical FasciaDr. Sherif Fahmy

Superficial Fascia(Page 2)

It is a thin layer of fascia that contains:1- Platysma muscle.2- Superficial veins.3- Cutaneous nerves.4- Superficial lymph nodes.

Attachments of Investing Deep Fascia1-Upper: To symphesis menti, lower border of mandible, mastoid process, Superior nuchal line and external occipital protuberance. It splits around parotid and submandibular glands.2-Lower: Superasternal notch, clavicle, acromion and spine. It splits above suprasternal notch which contains lower parts of anterior jugular veins, jugular arch, sternal head of sternomastoid muscle and some lymph nodes.3-Posterior: Ligamentum nuchae and spine of C7.4-Anterior: Symphesis menti, Body of hyoid and suprasternal notch. It forms the roof of Anterior & Posterior Triangles of the Neck

Structures That pierce the deep investing fascia

1- External jugular vein (one inch above the clavicle).2- Supraclavicular nerves )just above the clavicle).

Applied Anatomy

•1- Injury of external jugular may lead to air embolism.•2- Injury of spinal accessory

leads to shoulder drop.
