Local Organising Committee (LOC)

The LOC has been set up for overseeing planning and conduct of the 59th ISI WSC.

Comprises senior officials from C&SD and the Information Services Department, academics from local universities, representatives from HK Statistical Society, HK Tourism Board and private sector.

Chaired by Mr. FUNG Hing-wang, the Commissioner for Census and Statistics of the HKSAR Government.

Local Programme Committee (LPC)

The LPC has also been set up for cooperating with the ISI Programme Committee to develop the Scientific Programme of the 59th ISI WSC.

Chaired by Prof. NG Kai-wang, the Head of Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, the University of Hong Kong.

Comprises academics in statistical field from local universities in Hong Kong.

Approval on the financial commitments for covering the net expenditure of the 59th ISI WSC has been sought from the HKSAR Government.

Preliminary proposal on registration fees

To avoid effect of exchange rate fluctuation on our budget, we propose to denominate the registration fees in US Dollar.

A detailed scheme of registration fees for other types of participants and at normal rates will be worked out later.

Preparation in Progress

Arrangement is in progress to select a Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) for providing support in organising the 59th ISI WSC.

Preparation for the publicity activities and presentation on stage during the 58th WSC in Dublin for introducing Hong Kong and the 59th ISI WSC will be launched soon.

Virtual Participation

The 59th ISI WSC will be the first ISI WSC which offers the option of virtual participation.

It is planned that a webcasting system will be set up to support real-time participation of a number of selected meetings via the Internet.

Theme of the 59th ISI WSC

Programme relating to the Theme will be spread over two days instead of one.

Theme of the 59th ISI WSC (Cont’d)

We may consider organising a Young Statistician Award Competition before the 59th ISI WSC. Winning awardees may be subsidised to attend the 59th ISI WSC and present their papers there.

To encourage more participation, a special rate of registration fee may also be offered to participants aged under 35.

More advices and suggestions on the programme are welcome.

IT system supporting the 59th ISI WSC

An online IT system will be set up for supporting registration of participants, submission of paper and abstract management via the Internet.

We are now searching for a coherent and effective system in the market which could meet the requirements of the 59th ISI WSC.

Short Courses and Satellite Meetings

Similar to the past ISI WSCs, short courses / satellite meetings may be arranged before and after the 59th ISI WSC to provide opportunities for enhancing statistical development and collaboration.

The LOC may provide assistance to organisers in approaching potential hosts of the short courses / satellite meetings in countries / cities nearby.
