Mini Assessment Review

DNA:

Is the genetic material found in cells. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid.

Function means:

The job the part does.

Structure means: The shape of a part and the material it

is made of.

Organisms with a nucleus:

Eukaryotes

A prokaryotic cell: Is the one that does not have a nucleus.

A bacterium or bacteria is a prokaryotic cell.

Mitochondria:

Is the one that burns sugar to release energy.

The picture above is a plant cell and you can call it eukaryotic cell too.

Remember: eukaryotic cells are the ones with a nucleus and this one has a nucleus.

Cell Wall:

1. Supports the cell

2. Protects the cell

3. Surrounds the cell

A=cell wall F= DNA

B=vacuole G=golgi complex

C=chloroplast H=mitochondria

D=cell membrane I=endoplasmic reticulum

E=cell wall

Cell # 1 is a plant cell

Cell#2 is a bacteria or bacterium

Cell #3 is an animal cell

Cell Theory

The cell the theory states that all organisms are made of cells.

The cell is the basic unit of life. All cells come from other cells.

Mitochondria and chloroplasts are energy-producing organelles. They are surrounded by two membranes.

Ribosomes are the sites where amino acids are linked together to form proteins. Ribosomes are not covered by a membrane.

All cells have a cell membrane, DNA, cytoplasm, and organelles.

Most cells are too small to be seen with the naked eye.

The surface-to-volume ratio is a comparison of the cell’s outer surface to the cell’s volume.

A cell’s surface-to volume ratio decreases as the cell grows.

There are three basic types of cells: eubacteria, archae-bacteria, and eukaryotes.
