Kopitiam is a traditional Chinese coffee shops. It is originally from Southeast Asia.

Specialized in meals and beverages. The word “Kopitiam” came from different languages as there are a variety of races in Southeast Asia.

The word “Kopi” means Coffee in Malay and “tiam” means shop in Hokkien/Hakka. Although Kopitiam is a traditional Chinese Coffee shop, but people from different races also visit and enjoy their time in these shops.

These are 5 of some great Kopitiams around Kuala Lumpur. They have been there for generations, even though some are not but they are all famous, especially in their own area.

The first of the 5 great Kopitiam, Restaurant “Kim Lian Kee”, located at 49-51 Jalan Petaling, 55100 Kuala Lumpur.

Round tables, chopsticks, and soup spoon, all red in colours, things you could always found in Kopitiam.

The counter, the owner usually sit inside and the waiters/waitresses will bring the orders there to be noted down by the owner for the billing purposes.

8Fried Kuey Teow and Ice Tea, foods and drinks usually served in Kopitiam.

Half boiled eggs, one of the Kopitiam’s signature. You can always found one in every Kopitiam, usually eaten for breakfast.

The second place, Restaurant “Tang City & Foodcourt” located at 55 Jalan Petaling Kuala Lumpur. A Kopitiam restaurant with foodcourt.

Variety of races and people from other country.

Coloured plastic plates and plastic glasses usually used in Kopitiam.

13Rice, served for Asian people. It’s hard to see an Asian eating without rice especially in Kopitiam.

Old-fashioned tiles are used.

Ice “Liang Teh” or Herbal Tea is also one of the Kopitiam most favorite drinks.

The other favorite drink is Hot Tea.
