Project Start-up Flow

Three Phases of Digitalization

4

In this document, we use an example of a major apparel company with multiple designers and patternmakers to introduce the flow.

The appropriate way to launch a project depends on the size of the company and other factors, so please contact our staff for details.

Project Start-up Flow

Phase 1: Formation of a Specialized Team

- The specialized team should include a patternmakers and a designer as members.

In case of absence of knit patternmakers, the following personnel are appropriate.

- Patternmakers of woven items

- Those who have experience in using other 3D software

- Those who have studied patternmaking at school etc.

- It would be better to have a knit programmers or those who have knowledge of knitting in the team

since designs are created based on knitting techniques in APEX.

- Members of a specialized team are also called "super users.”

- The objective of the specialized team is to accumulate know-how while implementing the digitization project

on a trial basis, and to spread the operation to filed staff, such as designers and patternmakers.

If you need any advice on setting up a team, please feel free to contact us.5

Project Start-up Flow

Phase 1: Formation of a Specialized Team

Specialized Team (Super Users)

Consists of designers, patternmakers, knit programmers, etc.

Pilots virtual sampling to establish a workflow.

Field staff (designers, patternmakers, etc.)

Operate the flow built by the specialized team

A specialized team (super users) leads and expands the operation of virtual sampling within the company. 6

- SHIMANAVI is recommended for learning APEX operations.

- SHIMANAVI: e-learning system for SDS-ONE APEX series. https://lms.shimaseiki.com/?lang=en

Knit Design Course (30~35 hours): Learn the basics of knit design, such as creating structure patterns and jacquard patterns.

3D Knit Design Course (8.5~10 hours): Learn how to create a basic pattern piece and apply a knit design on it.

3D Patternmaking Course (50~65h): Learn how to add components such as ruffles to basic patterns.

Course Contents

There are two types of plans available: the Self-study Plan, which allows you to learn at your own pace by repeatedly watching the videos you need, and the Certification Plan, which allows

you to improve your understanding by having the instructor correct your assignments. The course period for both plans is one year. (In the case of the Certification Plan, the deadline for

submission of assignments is three months after the start of the course.

Please contact us and we will propose the best course and plan according to your business type. 7

Project Start-up Flow

Phase 1: Formation of a Specialized Team

TM

If you need help with advanced operations, we can provide individual training in person or online.

- Incorporate what you learned in SHIMANAVI into the actual work.

- Conduct internal pilot of virtual sampling and establish internal workflow.

- Examine data linkage with the production side: what production data is needed and what data format to share.

8

Project Start-up Flow

Phase 1: Formation of a Specialized Team

- After clarifying the vision as above, educate the field staff, including designers and patternmakers, who will

be actually working on the project.

- The benefits of the virtual sampling and the policy for its operation should be shared throughout the company

at the beginning to ensure unity of intention.

- SHIMANAVI is useful at this time as well.

- Members of the specialized team act as super users to support the learners and improve the skills of the

whole company.

9

Project Start-up Flow

Phase 2: Education for Teams Other Than the Specialized Team

- Start full-scale virtual sampling operations.

- Super users can help as a support for field staff who are not yet familiar with the operation.

- Super users can create a library of commonly used in-house data, such as yarn data and pattern data, in

advance to streamline the work of the field staff. (Digital asset management)

Sharing digital assets also with suppliers who are using APEX will facilitate communication.

If you have any problems after the start of implementation, please contact us. We will help you solve the problem.

We also recommend using FAQ sites to solve problems. https://www.shimaseiki.co.jp/user/login_faq/

Phase 3: Company-wide Implementation

Successful Project Launch

COBALT (Hong Kong)

COBALT, a company under the L&F Group, has established a lab for virtual sampling and a dedicated digital team.

A virtual sample is always created for the first sample, reducing the sampling time from the original two months to two or three weeks.
