Assignment

• Choose your favorite book, poem, or author that you find to be very imaginative (Romanticism focuses on being original and creative!).

• Make a list of words, facts, and images that could be used to describe or represent your choice (you will have to do some research for this part!)

• You will be building platform shoes out of corrugated cardboard that:– Must support your weight– When your foot is in the shoe, your foot should be

at least 6 inches from the ground– Must be stable enough to walk 10 feet (if your

shoes do not seem stable, you will not get to try walking in them!)

– Must be themed/decorated to represent the book, poem, or author you chose to research.

Assessment

• As your assessment, you will have to demonstrate that your shoes make you 6 inches taller, can support your weight, and are sturdy enough to walk the 10-foot-long gauntlet.

• For extra credit, dress up accordingly for the theme/person you chose for your shoes, and bring a theme song to walk the gauntlet to!

• The focus of this project is units of structure.– You want to use the strongest units of structure

possible to support your weight without exhausting materials.

– One example is the 3D triangle.– Another example is a thick spiral.
