airplane • How to plan an airport • How airport expansion can affect the environment • How weather can affect air travel

Main focus in English and Maths

English

Fly Eagle Fly (Myths and Legends)Children will be reading a variety of mythical stories and write their own.Focus on:-Using a variety of sentence starters-Using connectives-Using speech marks-Using noun/adverbial phrases

The Frog Prince (Fairy Tales)

Children will look at the conventions of fairytales and have an opportunity to write their own.

Maths

*Number: counting, partitioning, and calculating.*Place value.*Mental math's calculations*Multiplication facts*Four operations.*Handling data and measures (time).*Word problems/problem solving activities.

Science Topic – Light and Shadows

Recognise that they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light.Recognise that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by a solid object.Find patterns in the way that the size of shadows change.Recognise that light from the sun can be dangerous and that there are ways to protect their eyes.Explain that you can see in a mirror because light bounces back.

Leaders and Followers: Why does the Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] matter to Muslims?

This unit focuses on why the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is seen as exemplary or inspirational by some

people by exploring key aspects of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) life and the teachings of the

Qur’an about Prophethood. In this unit, pupils will have the opportunity to interview a visitor about the

importance of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for them.

ART

Children will explore cave painting and have opportunities to create animal images using chalk

pastels. Children will use modelling material to make their very own stone age jewellery.

PE in Spring

*Athletics

*Tennis

*Swimming. PE Kit

Children will need their house coloured t- shirt, black bottoms and trainers/

plimsolls with them for ALL sessions!

Priority 1• Children should be writing everyday using

the techniques they have been taught.

• Read every day if possible.

Some of these include:• A variety of punctuation, . “ ” ? ! • Connectives• Variety of sentence openers• Vocabulary

Priority 2 Children should be confident in recalling their 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 times table.

Number bonds to 100.

Place value.

Formal method for adding/subtracting.

Mental recall.

Homework Rules

• Turn television off.• Work in a calm, quiet place.• Make a routine of doing homework at a

particular time of the day.• Family’s to support children if they get stuck.

How you can help your child…• Ensure that your child has a good night’s sleep.

• Give them a good breakfast in the morning.

• Help them to be independent : Give them minor tasks at home.

• Take your child to visit museums, galleries etc: Talk to them about their environment and their experiences.

• Have a regular writing activity at home (e.g. daily diary entries)

• Practice written forms of calculation that your child is familiar with in order to develop pace.

We need your help with…

• Check book bags for letters, homework etc.

• Ensure that your child is reading every day, completing homework tasks as well as learning their times tables.

• Assist your child with their homework and ensure that it is done to the best of their ability.

• Ensure that your child brings the proper PE kit as well as suitable swim wear.
