President's MessageJune 2020
We had our first general meeting via Zoom lastmonth. Thanks to Whit Anderson for creating andhosting our Zoom meeting. Mark Jundanian alsohelped cohost the meeting. Mike Perry did anexcellent job creating and moderating our From Our
Workshop presentation for our meeting. Thanks Mark and Mike, aswell. We had 45 members in attendance and we will have this sameformat this month on Monday, June 15 at 7pm. Please watch yourinbox for your Zoom invitation. Be prepared to see a lot of niceprojects. You are also able to hear and ask about the projects duringour meeting just like when we are physically together.
St. James church will let us know near the end of August what wemight expect for the rest of the year in terms of meeting in person. Inthe meantime we will be using Zoom for our board meetings andgeneral meetings. We will not be having an auction or “garage sale”this year due to the COVID situation. However, I am very excited tolet you know that we will have world renowned woodworker, ScottGrove, presenting on veneering basics for 90 minutes via aninteractive remote demonstration on Zoom for our July generalmeeting. Scott lectures, demonstrates, and judges at national andinternational conferences as well as regional and local woodworkinggroups, and is also a contributing writer for Fine Woodworking amongother woodworking publications. He has written three books onwoodworking including “Advanced Veneering”. I have personallytaken two classes with him at Marc Adams School ofWoodworking. He is very entertaining and extremely knowledgeable.Whit Anderson has added information about Scott to the web pagecalendar.

Board Meeting Minutes – June01, 2020
George Rodgers opened themeeting at 7:00 p.m. Presentwere Jim Harvey, Bruce Kinney,Whit Anderson, Peter D’Attomo,Mike Perry, Bill Hoffman, Mike
Kalschuer, Mark Jundanian, Lee Nye, MarkWieting, Jeff Kramer, Tony Evansky, and JerryJohnson.
[Due to the “social distancing” limitation causedby COVID–19 pandemic the board meeting washeld by the video conferencing service ZOOM.]
The minutes and treasurer’s report wereapproved.
President’s report – Advocate Children’sHospital in Oak Lawn will be the recipient of thisyear’s Beads of Courage boxes. Both Bruce andGeorge are collecting the boxes and plan todeliver them to the hospital in the latter half ofJune.
Standing Committee Reports

Publicity (Keith Rosche) – No report.

Newsletter (Jim Harvey) – The deadline forcopy to be submitted for the newsletter is Friday,June 5. Project submissions for the FOW generalmeeting will be accepted until Friday evening.
From Our Workshop (Lee Nye) – Nothing toreport.
Activities (Jeff Kramer) – The June 27 visit toReTool in Rockford and to Del Webb MillgroveWoodworking Shop in Huntley and the July 31visit to Jerry Carter’s woodshop followed by abarbeque and possible Cubs game are stillplanned but all depend on COVID19.
Programs (Peter D’Attomo) – Nothing new toreport except the potential ZOOM program byScott Grove (See New Business).
A/V (Mike Perry) – Mike is working on the nextgeneral meeting material which, similar to theMay meeting, will use From Our Workshop as ameeting theme. He wrote a letter that containscomprehensive information on membersubmissions of items to be featured.
Web (Whit Anderson) – In May, we had our firstonline general meeting with 45 members inattendance. Things went pretty well and theboard decided to follow the same theme for theJune meeting. Thanks to Whit and all who helpedus get started with ZOOM.
The club is going to pay for a ZOOM accounton a monthly basis until we see what the futureneeds turn out to be.
The Classifieds have been shut down since theShelter in Place order went into effect, Now thatwe are somewhat returning to normal we will bereactivating the Classified section of the website.
Old Business
Garage sale. This is planned to replace theauction which is normally held in July. Due toCOVID19 the space will not be available and thetopic will remain tabled. Therefore, there will beboth a board meeting and a general meeting inJuly.
New Business
Having a July general meeting leaves a shortinterval for planning a program. Afterbrainstorming ideas the board decided on askingScott Grove to present Veneering Basics via ournow normal ZOOM. Scott is an awardwinningmaster craftsman and is a woodworker,woodturner, artist, sculptor, and author. As aretired clown, he knows that sharing informationin an entertaining and creative way makeslearning easier and more fun.

Online June Meeting for DPWWThe DuPage Woodworkers May meeting viaZoom was a success. 45 people logged in. Theclub is going to hold another online meeting at7:00 pm on Monday, June 15th. Our president,George Rodgers, will give an update aboutfuture meetings. This will be followed by a FromOur Workshop sharing of projects. The projectswe use will be those most recently submitted byemail to Jim Harvey for the newsletter, somefrom the club Forum, and some from the GoogleForm submission process.
The online meeting will be held using Zoomsoftware. Each member will receive an email linkthat will allow them to log in from their homecomputer. The link is different each time we holda Zoom meeting. The software is free and you donot have to set up an account. Some membershave used Zoom before, for others it will be theirfirst experience. If you have a webcam andmicrophone that's great, but not essential. Atminimum you will need speakers or headphonesto hear what is said.
During the From Our Workshop section you willbe able to see member's wood projects that wewill show in a PowerPoint slide show using thepreviously submitted photographs. We will nothave projects held up to a webcam during FOW.The project creator will have an (optional)opportunity to speak briefly about the projectsimilar to our in person meetings.
