The Word Cherubim

According to the Jewish Encyclopedia the word “Cherubim” is the Hebrew translation of the Assyrian word “Kiribu” that means “to be near”– “Kerubu” is the Yoruba translation of the

word “Cherubim” – “Kerubu” is much closer to the Assyrian

word “Kirubu” translated Cherubim in HebrewHence the K & S designation of the church

The Cherubim are near

The Cherubim are near and dear to God– The only images

allowed in the temple– Exodus 25:18

Purpose of the Cherubim

Cherubim and Seraphim

Cherubim is a description of the 4 living creatures as a group while Seraphim is a description of the individual members of the group– Body of Christ versus Members of Christ– Flock of Christ versus Sheep of Christ– Household of God versus Children of God– Army of Christ versus Soldiers of Christ

The Fire of Devotion

The Hebrew Seraphim word actually means “The Burning Ones”– It is the burning nature of the Seraphim that

gives the Cherubim the appearance of burning coals of fire in Ezekiel 1:13

– David in Psalm 104:4 said “God makes his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire”Cherubim and Seraphim are ministers of GodOne of the Seraphim ministered to Isaiah 6:5-7
