• One of the broadcasters in the world which did not have advertising

Greg Dyke’s Strategy

• Cut Management Overhead – Increased organizational efficiency

• Adopting to emerging technology and digital media

Greg Dyke’s Resignation – Sequence of events

• Andrew Gilligan conducted an off the record interview with scientist with Dr. David Kelly

• He quoted the comments of Dr. Kelly in one of his shows

• This led to the investigation on Dr. Kelly and leading to committing suicide by Dr. Kelly

• An enquiry under Lord Hutton was critical of Andrew Gilliban reporting and BBC’s response to government’s acquisions of inaccuracy

• This led to a major credibility loss to BBC and culminated in resignation of Greg Dyke.

Recommendations

• Introduce control points rather than a complete Flat structure

• Core values/strengths of BBC - Credibility and Neutrality while reporting programs. Strategy for future to revolve around these core values

• Focus on Online news to compete with other news providers

• As an organisation they need to promote ethical practices to keep up their reputation
