BOSNIAN CONFLICTMegan Palmer
Genocide
■ A systematic and deliberate destruction of a racial, political, religious or ethnic group
■ Genocide in History
– The Holocaust, 1939-1945
– Armenian genocide, 1915-1923
– Rwandan genocide, 1994
■ Another example of a lesser known genocide, the Bosnian Conflict
Bosnia
■ In the early 90s, around 30,000 went missing and were presumed dead, along with
100,000 more victims by the end of the Bosnian Conflict
■ Forensic experts have recently discovered the largest known mass grave yet, and are
working to uncover every body and belonging
– The items being recovered are now being photographed in order to have a
visual archive of the things people lost
– After the items, are recovered they are also being used in war trials and legal
proceedings to prosecute people involved in the genocide
There were many artifacts and
items exhumed, most commonly
shoes, glasses, clocks or
watches and combs.
