Bannawald, BallingerGreat Missenden HP16 9LF
Ballinger is home to everything of modest
distinction. From the Roald Dahl museum to the
chalky Chiltern Hills; from the classic look of the
surrounding villages to the close proximity to
London, this house is undoubtedly in a favoured
location.
Bannawald truly is a proper family home offering flexible
accommodation surrounded by beautiful Chiltern
countryside. The rear garden backs onto the woods with a
private stile onto the woodland footpath; perfect for Sunday
strolls with the family.
This is a must for families seeking country living with the
benefits of nearby Chiltern line access to London and a short
drive to excellent primary and secondary grammar schools;
the school bus routes conveniently run through the village.
Lee Common primary school is just two minutes by car and
the traditional village shop does a wonderful trade near to
the tennis courts and scout hut. The Lee Cricket pitch is
particularly vibrant throughout the summer months.
Bannawald’s character stems from its Edwardian heritage
that is still prevalent today. For the family, this house flows
beautifully and could be adapted with ease as your children
grow. Much improvement has been made over the years to
include a fabulous extended kitchen/breakfast room. With
its timber vaulted ceiling, it seamlessly invites you onto the
patio and into the garden, whilst remaining the true hub of
the house. A terrific barbecue spot with an elevated view
onto the garden can be enjoyed with a glass of wine on a
summer’s evening.
The living room with log burning stove is warm and
welcoming and the generous dining room can adapt to any
function.
The bedrooms are arranged over two storeys with superb
views either over the garden with its wooded back drop
or to the elevated front view across the fields. The family
bathroom is super generous in size and the top two
bedrooms/study and bathroom lend themselves perfectly to
teenage living.
Bannawald as a family home covers every base. The result
is a unified and beautiful property ready for occupation and
suited to any use the owners wish.

LocationNamed in the Domesday Book and known principally for Missenden Abbey (founded in 1133), the Historic Towns Assessment Report notes: lying on a London to West Midlands route, ‘the Red Lion and The George provided rest and refreshment for travellers and their horses.’
In the 13th century, it was granted a market charter and fair but competing as it did with Amersham and High Wycombe it remained a largely agricultural town.
The arrival of the railway (Metropolitan Line) in 1892 did little to dramatically alter its quiet character and today it is still largely a location for those who genuinely seek solitude while enjoying easy connections to London.
Great Missenden home to mostly small, independent shops and businesses embracing the quirky and luxury. To Illustrate, there exists a hot air balloon company, dog-grooming boutique, bookshop and garden centre.
The Friday morning Farmers’ market at Prestwood is worth moving your schedule aside to visit selling fresh local produce from jams to meats and cheeses.
Of special note is Roald Dahl’s house and Missenden Abbey which now runs weekend and summer courses of every ilk.
The small number of annual events are incredibly well-attended and include the Steam Fair (at Prestwood), Heritage Open Weekend and Craft Fair.
When choosing food and drink, Great Missenden is abundant in quality. From traditional English to Oriental cuisine locally, a short drive brings you to Amersham or Aylesbury and High Wycombe with every taste catered for.
A modest and unassuming history depicts a town which is neither overgrown nor underdeveloped. Anyone choosing this town will appreciate its slower pace and English rural town feel while being swiftly and easily connected to London and beyond.
