Advanced Placement

• What does AP mean?

– AP courses are rigorous, college-level

classes in a variety of subjects that give

students an opportunity to gain the skills

and experience colleges recognize.

Advanced Placement

Myths

• AP courses are

for students who

always get good

grades.

• AP courses are

too stressful.

Reality

• AP courses are for any student

who is academically prepared

and motivated to take on

college-level courses

• It's no secret that AP courses

are challenging. But in

collaborative classrooms and

for subjects you care about, the

support you receive from your

classmates and teachers can

help ease your worries, once

you know you’re committed

and willing to do the work.

AP Pathway

• Pre-AP classes are the “springboard”

into AP courses

• 9th grade is the safest time to take a

Pre-AP course.

• Colleges look for rigorous coursework

first, then ACT, then GPA

• You don’t have to take Pre-AP/AP to go

to college, but it is helpful.

AP Participation 2018-2019

• 55% of ALL freshmen took one Pre AP class.

• Every Pre-AP class had growth w/ less unsuccessful

students

• AP growth

– We saw a growth of 100 testers last year.

• Test pass rate-60%

• Above state, national, and global average.

– We have a growth of over 150 tests this year.

– 6 Perfect ACT scores in last two years.
