GE launches new Vivid E95/E90 at ASE in Boston.See what we've learned from Day...
Hi Team,
GE has launched the Vivid E90 and Vivid E95 systems this weekendat ASE in Boston. The new platforms are prominently displayedthroughout with only 1 Vivid E9 XDclear system in the back of thebooth with no scanning station. Looks like a planned obsolescenceis on the horizon.
GE Vivid E95 link
Day One, Heres what we know so far:
The systems look almost identical to the Vivid E9 XDclearsystem. The new E95 has a black trim whereas the E9 has agray trim. Also the Vivid E95 has a new OLED LCD monitorwhich is slightly slimmer. (see pictures)
These are the physical dimensions of the systems: GE Vivid E9 XDclear Dimensions: 45-53 (H) x 21 (W) x
33 (D) Weight: 286 lbs GE Vivid E95 Dimensions: 48 3/8-64 (H) x 21 (W) x 33
(D) Weight 278lbs
A GE rep told a customer the Vivid E9 probes will migrate tothe new systems.
The estimated cost (USD) is roughly 160K
They will continue to sell the Vivid E9 XDclear. However, they only had one on the booth and there was no livescanning with it. Begs the question how long will it beavailable and is this a sound investment for customers?
They claim the system is completely new and not arepackaged E9. (note the dimensions are almost identicaland it has the same UI , only the monitor has changed)
cSound is the new software based beamformer (softwarebeamformer but system is no smaller and only 8lbs lighter)
True Confocal Image for TEE- introduces uniform focusing, combined with increased contrast resolution throughout thefield of view at high frame rates (just like IN Focus?)
Virtual Apex- Phased array probes provide a wide field ofview for enhanced visualization of structures at the sides ofthe sector. (sound familiar? Weve been doing this sinceSequoia circa 1996)
AFI Stress-protocols acquire standard apical 2D views andquantify both longitudinal segmental and global strain wallmotion assessment at each stress level
They also claim that they are now able to visualize red bloodcells (aka spontaneous contrastthis is new??? No to us)

4D AVQ- modification of area measurements used inpredicate device (appears to be a model of the LVOT/Aoroot? Will learn more)
Tom Tec quantification tools (including 4D RV and LVfunction)
HD Live technology migrated from VolusonE10.Lighting/Shading maps (we can do this too with PRIME) Itdoes look quite nice for 4D TEE.
No improvements made to color Doppler noted. GE onlytouting 2D IQ improvements. (Could this be from the high-endOLED monitor?)
NO improvements noticed in 3D TTE imaging performed onthe booth.
Former GE rep/GE consultant reports the E80 will be theRadiology product
Former GE rep also claims the system no longer utilizes fansto cool system and is very quiet. (no mention of whether ornot its library quiet)
It looks as though the E95 will be the system for 4D and theE90 will be the 2D system. Similar to EPIQ 7 and EPIQ 5?More details to come.
The systems are Windows 7
