BJP CHHATTISGARH

get a marginal lead in the panchayat polls in the state.

The opposition leaders alleged that the ruling party rigged the

Panchayat President polls or otherwise the tally would have

been in favor of Congress party.

The District Panchayat President is elected by the district panchayat

members. As the panchayat election in Chhattisgarh is not

contested on party line, the exact number of BJP and Congress supporters winning panch and

sarpanch posts cannot be known.

In Jagdalpur, BJP Chhattisgarh managed to get its candidate Javita

Mandavi occupy the post.

Singh Deo failed to ensure victory for the candidates backed by their

parties.

In Rajnandgaon, the home constituency of Singh, BJP backed

Madhu Sahu lost the election to Congress backed Chitralekha

Verma.

In Sarguja from where Singh Deo belongs, BJP backed candidate

Phooleshwari Paikra won the District Panchayat President poll.

The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh failed to repeat its Assembly and Lok Sabha election

performance, losing most of its seats to the Congress and independent

candidates.

The BJP Chhattisgarh which was ruling in six out of 10 Municipal Corporations in the State, secured

victory only in four places.

A faction-ridden Congress won four Mayoral posts, including

Raipur, one more than its previous tally.

The BJP party could retain only 16 out of 29 seats it won last time in the 40 Municipal Councils that went to the polls in December.
