Cross campus education On Friday 6th March, F1V made the long trek (for li le legs) to AP2 to visit a science lab in conjunc on
with their topic on “Fire”. The students put on laboratory goggles to be transformed into li le scien sts
and did two experiments under the watchful eyes of their teachers and Mrs Smith. Firstly they took it in
turns to carefully light a Bunsen Burner and they were so surprised to see a flame apparently from
nowhere. Then they were treated to a demonstra on of different coloured flames created by dipping a
wire loop into a variety of chemicals which was then held in a hot flame. They were excellent in their use
of language saying things like “Purple fire!” and “Nickel Chloride!”. Excellent work F1V.

UNISMUN 2015
From March 5th to 8th, a team of 17 eager and high‐spirited delegates traveled to Hanoi to par cipate in the 7th annual United Na ons Interna onal School Model United Na ons (UNISMUN). Although we had prepared ourselves for the s mula ng debates ahead for the next 3 days, li le did we know to pack enough jumpers to ba le against the cold weather of Hanoi. The resounding bang from the Secretary General’s gavel marked the opening of the conference which was followed by a guest speaker Mr Nguyen, a researcher at the Hanoi Na onal Space Centre. The first day of the conference was full of lobbying sessions where delegates and student officers from different schools socialised with one another and engaged in prior debates. The next day, delegates were given the opportunity to fight and debate for their stance on current interna onal affairs: the situa on in the Middle East, Ukraine, LGBT rights, and the u lisa on of, and se‐curity in, space. Not only was the conference filled with passionate speeches and challenging “Points of Informa on”, but echoes of laughter during break mes. Everyone le the conference with a feeling of increased confidence, experience and with a significantly increased number of friend requests on social media and inside jokes. Our experience from this conference definitely matched this year’s theme of “space” as the days of intense deba ng mounted up to, in the wise words of Buzz Lightyear, infinity and beyond.
