BIKE NEW YORK Who we are, where we’re going, and why you should join us for the ride.

ABOUT US

3

Bike New York is New York City’s go-to cycling resource. We are a nonprofit dedicated to promoting bicycling as a safe, sustainable, healthy, and fun form of transportation and recreation.

4

We do this by providing free bike education programs for kids and adults throughout the five boroughs; ever year, we teach bike riding and bike safety skills to thousands of New Yorkers. These programs are funded with proceeds from Bike New York events, such as...

TD Five Boro Bike Tour America’s biggest charitable bike ride The TD Five Boro Bike Tour offers cyclists the opportunity to bike through all five boroughs–Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island–on streets totally free of traffic. With 32,OOO riders rolling into New York City from every state in the nation and dozens of countries around the globe, the Tour is America’s biggest charitable bike ride and one of the biggest bike rides in the world. The Tour was also the first event in NYC to be certified sustainable by the Council for Responsible Sport.

OUR HISTORY

26

In 1977, a group of bike advocates under the auspices of the American Youth Hostels—and in conjunction with the Board of Education—decided to put on a bike ride that would take cyclists through all five boroughs of New York City.

27

At 7AM on June 12th of that year, 25O people gathered beneath the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Park for the first annual 5 Boro Challenge. Their goal, in the words of the ride’s organizer, was “to show the city, the press, the TBTA, that a large group of bicyclists [could] safely and effectively travel throughout this city.” Turns out they showed the world.

28

29

30

31

Every year, we welcome 32,OOO cyclists from every state in the nation and dozens of countries around the world to New York City for what has become an NYC institution.

32

Since 1977, the city has changed, the Tour has changed, and our riders have changed. But our aim has remained the same: we want to empower more New Yorkers to grab life by the handlebars.

EDUCATION

34

In 2OO4, using proceeds from the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, we established a free bike education program.

35

For the past decade, we’ve been showing kids and adults that they can safely and effectively travel throughout this great city—and beyond.

First, we teach them how to ride.

36

37

Then, we teach them how to do so safely, confidently, and courteously.

38

Then we take them on the rides of their lives.

CBECs Community Bike Education Centers In the beginning, we transported bikes to our students—now we put down roots in their communities. Since 2O11, we’ve established 13 Community Bicycle Education Centers (CBECs) across the five boroughs. These CBECs comprise a shipping container housing a fleet of 35 bikes, 35 helmets, and tools & parts.

ROLLING FORWARD

52

Bike New York will always be dedicated to education and to promoting cycling as a safe, sustainable, healthy, and fun means of transportation and recreation.

53

There’s never been a more exciting time to be a cyclist in NYC. Improved and expanded infrastructure, the launch of Citi Bike, and growing environmental concerns are impelling more New Yorkers than ever to saddle up, hit the road, and experience the freedom and sense of discovery that is riding a bike.

54

We’ll be there to welcome, encourage, and empower them to grab life by the handlebars. And we want you to join us for the ride.

Thank you.

We view all of our sponsor relationships as unique chances to explore mutually beneficial growth opportunities. As such, we do not have off-the-shelf sponsorship packages.
