BHILAI STEEL PLANT

BHILAI STEEL PLANT is one of the largest steel plants in INDIA. It has an installed capacity of more than 4 million tones of crude steel per year and covers an area of about 36 sq.kms.It was built by RUSSIAN COLABORATION.

SAIL is Indias largest steel producing company with a turnover of 48,681 crores. The company is among the top 5 highest profit earning corporates of the country. SAIL steel is widely used by sectors such as defence,railways,construction,automotive etc..

• The Blast Furnace department consists of 7 Blast Furnace.

• Three of them are of 1033 cu.m. useful volume • Three of them are 1719 cu.m. • BF 7 is of 2000 cu.m.

There are 3 main sections of the department: 1. Raw Material Section 2. Furnace Section 3. Auxiliary section

(A )Extrenal Traffic: Bringing in Raw Materials and dispatch of

finshed products in association with Indian Railways.The Work Linked up on one side with Bhilai Exchange yard and on the side with maroda Railway Station both of South Eastern Railway.All raw materials For the plant except ferro alloy and manganese of ferro alloy&Mn ore.empty wagons for outward loading and dispatch of finshed and semi finshied products are carried out through Bhilai Exchange Yard link,Works Station is the main exchan ge yard of our plant connected with double lines to bhilai Exchange Yard.

(B) Internal traffic: It is mainly for inter-shop movement of various finished and semi finished goods,raw material,scrap,and all other miscellaneous traffic inside the plant.It is organized in a modern style of contact schedule system.

All activities are controlled by five stations and one Peripheral Yarda) Works Station and Rolling Mills Postb)Raw Material Station &Plate Mill Postc)Blast Furnace Station and Cold Pig Yardd)Steel Statione)Open Hearth station and Muck Dumpf)Peripheral Yard

TRAFFIC HANDLING FACILITIES IN T&D ORGANISATIONA) CONTROL: There are six controls to co-ordinate ,round the clock,the spread and number of activities of Rail Transport Department from one end to other end of works.These Controls are as follows:

1)Train Control2)Traffic Control3)Commercial Control4)Power Control5)Permanent Way Control6)Railway Signalling Control

B)Locomotives:The Department has a fleet of 80 locomotives comprising the following types of Locomotives.

C) Trams:Trams is an acronym for “Traffic management System”.It is a computerized system and the first of its kind in india .It has been developed Indigenously,with very little Imported Hardware Components.

Telecommunication department comprises following sections :

- PLANT EXCHANGE & CLOCK STATION

- PLANTCABLE LINES

- TOWNSHIP EXCHANGES & CABLE LINES

- GENERAL COMMUNICATION

- AUTO MANUAL & DIRECTORY SER\/ICES

- TELEPHONE REPAIR SHOP

TELEPHONE EXCHANGES

The exchanges located at different places(as shown in the diagram) are of (in total) 5700 line capacity. The plant exchange is catering to the plant and a part of township. The township exchange is catering to a large portion of township. Rest of the township is served by the hospital exchange. BSP is connected to the outside world with the help of Direct Inward Dialing and Restricted Direct Outward Dialing.

PLANT CABLE LINES:

The telephone cable line network inside the plant area and some of the township areais looked after by this section.

TOWNSHIP EXCHANGE & CABLE LINES:

Three exchanges (including at sector-5 and the hospital) & telephone cable linenetwork for whole township alongwith satellite colonies is looked after by this section.

GENERAL COMMUNICATION:

This section helps all shops in the production activities. Almost all the communicationsystems inside the plant are maintained by this section
