Tim Conway (then going by “Tom”) gets his start at BGSU.

The first large-scale University Union opens.

1958

The horseshoe drive to University Hall is removed, creating the academic green center for campus.

1959

BGSU Football and coach Doyt Perry win the small college national title.

1960

Future President John F. Kennedy appears at BG.

1961

Cal Poly team crashes after playing BGSU in football. Mercy Bowl to benefit Cal Poly follows and is BG’s first bowl game.

1962

McDonald Residence Hall opens - Women Only! Women must sign in and out of dorms through 1965.

1963

BG men’s basketball defeats national champion Loyola in BG.

1964

WBGU-TV Channel 70 begins operation.

1966

BG defeats Dayton in the first game at new Doyt Perry Stadium.

1967

Library opens with a striking artistic finish.

1968

BG basketball loses to Marquette and Al McGuire in the NCAA tourney – the last time our men played in it - a span now reaching 40 years.

Falcon Hockey debuts

BG Reacts to Kent State Shootings

3.2% alcohol beer sold on campus, breaking 60 years of “dry.”

Student radio station WFAL takes off.

BG football shocks nationally ranked Purdue 17-14 on a last second field goal by a freshman.

Coed housing arrives at Kreischer Darrow Hall.

BGSU’s Dave Wottle wins Olympic gold in the 800 meter.

Streakers - Male and Female - Flash by BGSU.

An unheard-of band named Aerosmith rocks Anderson Arena.

1975

BG’s first and last outdoor music festival - The Poe Ditch Festival -brought 35,000 people and a few fires to BG.

BG’s College of Musical Arts receive full certification and moves to the forefront of Midwest schools.

1978

The Blizzard of ‘78 hammers BGSU, canceling winter graduation ceremonies and creating hundreds of entering students for 1996

1979

BG hockey ranked number one for the first time ever.

1980

Frieda Falcon joins Freddie as BGSU mascots

1984

BG wins the hockey national title.

1992

BGSU defeats Nevada in a last-second win at the Las Vegas Bowl.

2001

BG at Northwestern: Miracle win over the Big Ten under Urban Meyer
