Bezold Effect
ART 251
Wilhelm Von Bezold, A 19th Century Rug De s i g ne r, D i s cove red an OPT IC AL INTERACTION Effect, Which Now Carries His Name, The BEZOLD EFFECT. He Found That He Could Change the Entire Appearance of His Designs by Substituting a Different Color For the Color Which Occupied the Most Area.
Objective: To create a 4-quadrant radial design in which the total effect of the perceived hues used are altered by the change of ONE dominant hue. • Because you are creating 4 quadrants, there will be 4 different design alterations due to the Bezold Effect.
The 2nd, 3rd & 4th designs should alter the colors in HUE, INTENSITY, and/or VALUE. The tone of your designs may shift from warm/cool, light/dark, bright/dull.
