HOMEWORK• As you know, the Korean War confirmed that fighting communism
would not be limited to Europe. Containment continued to be a policy used in Asia (and Europe) in order to avoid the Domino Effect.

Following the German cease-fire in November 1918, the Allied powers met at the Paris Peace Conference to discuss the post-war world, and specifically, Germany’s future. In June 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed which aimed to limit the strength of Germany and create the League of Nations in order to ensure international cooperation between nations. Although both of these measures intended to stabilize, bring peace, and protect European nations, they eventually failed and allowed Hitler to act aggressively without punishment from the League of Nations. Ultimately, Hitler's aggression and the failure to observe the Treaty of Versailles, combined with the ineffectiveness of the League of Nations, directly led to the outbreak of World War II in 1939.
