Assalamu Alaikum,
Dear Parents,
This year (2014-2015), we accomplished many achievements as a school. We rallied together
for the Terry Fox Run and from that point the success soared throughout the year with the Hajj
Presentation, Eid Celebration, Health and Well-Being Days, Dare Program, Meet and Greet,
Jump Rope for Heart, Justice Theatre, World Hijab Day, Ready Set Learn, Scholastic Book
Fair, Vancouver Giants Read to Succeed, Free the Children, Noorart Book Fair, Hockey Day,
Milk Program, Muslim Food Bank Drive and our auspicious Qur’an Competition.
All of these events showcased the diverse skills, appreciation, respect and enthusiasm of our
school. Also in each month, a specific grade hosted a Monthly Assembly that highlighted an
Islamic virtue and we celebrated the success of our students.
We are very proud of our school, especially the hard work of the students and staff. Our PAC
has been a cornerstone in the foundation of our school. The parents have organized many
events for our students including the Eid Celebration Gifts, Monthly Hot Lunches, Meet and
Greet, Clothing Drive, Pancake Breakfast and Staff Appreciation.
To the Grade 7 students, I wish you the best as you continue your journey of learning. May you
seize the opportunities to showcase your talents and characteristics of being a good Muslim.
As we are in the holiest month of the Islamic Calendar, we must take some time to think about
what we have done this year and what can we improve on for the future. We must think about
those people who are less fortunate and live in hunger and poverty in many parts of the world.
Thinking is the first step, acting on it is the next. We must aspire to be more respectful, more
generous, self-disciplined and more caring about others. We must spend more time focussing
on our salah and reciting the Qur'an. Lastly, we must promise to work together for the better-
ment of our families and our children.
Thank you to the awesome teachers, students and parents for making this a wonderful year.
May Allah (SWT) accept our duas and keep us on the right path. Ameen!
On behalf of the staff and students at the BC Muslim School, Ramadan Kareem, Eid Mubarak,
and have a wonderful summer holiday! Insha Allah, we will see everyone back at school in
September!

On May 20th, all the students participated in our annual BCMS Sports Day. Students had a wonderful
time rotating through all twelve stations and playing fun games, such as Hockey, Hurdles, Discus, Bean
Bag Toss, Volleyball, and various relays. It was amazing to see the older students working together
with students in the younger grades. Thank you to our awesome team leaders and the Grade 6s and 7s
for running the stations. A huge thank you to the PAC who hosted another successful Hot Lunch and
treated all the students and teachers to refreshing watermelons and ice cream!
The house colour teams have been collecting points during all the Health and Well Being Days through-
out the year. After combining the point totals from all the Health and Well Being Days and Sports
Day, we are proud to announce that Team Black won the Championship trophy for this year. A most
sincere congratulations to Team Black and all the other teams. Your teamwork and sportsmanship were
incredible to see and we are already looking forward to next year!

Theme of the Month— Patience
What is Patience?
Patience is controlling oneself and staying calm even when things are not going smoothly. We are
patient when we accept the tests and difficulties in life without complaining. We should build our
deeds and hopes upon patience, because without this virtue, we can be very week.
Why practice Patience?
Muslims are encouraged to have patience, because it benefits them in regards to their religion
and their life. We need this beautiful virtue in order to be able to survive this life. Our main goal
is to please and worship Allah. For that reason we need to have patience, so we can uphold Al-
lah’s rules and stand in the face of hardship that come our way. Consequently receive Jannah
(Paradise) in the hereafter.
There are numerous verses in the Qur’an and sayings of the prophet that mention Patience. Allah
states in the Qur’an :
“Be sure we shall test you with something of fear, and hunger, some loss, in goods, lives
and fruits, but give gold tidings to those who patiently persevere, who say, when afflicted
with calamity: „To Allah we belong and to Him is our return‟: they are those on whom
blessings from their lord, and mercy and they are the ones that receive guidance.”
(Qur’an, 2:155-157)
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated:
“How wonderful is the case of a believer ; there is goodness for him in everything…..If
prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him: and if ad-
versity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is better for him.”
(Reported by Imam Muslim)
How to Practice Patience:
We practice patience by accepting whatever Allah provides us with; because His bounties are
endless upon us. We should be patient and ask Allah for reward while facing hardships. When
we are patient and seek the rewards from Allah, Allah will give us a sense of peace and tranquili-
ty, because we have depended on Him to make things better. We will always be ok with his bless-
ings. It takes patience to do the right things that would please Allah even when they are hard or
difficult. We also need patience to stay away from doing anything wrong even it is attractive and
tempting.
So, we should always be patient in every single way in our life to be successful and beloved by
Allah.

Grade 4 Field Trip—Police Museum
On Wednesday, May 27th, the Grades 4A and 4B classes visited the Vancouver Police Museum. The
students participated in a hands-on crime solving workshop where they had to think like CSI agents
and solve a case. They were split into groups of 5 and had to rotate between 6 different stations to find
clues to the guilty suspect. The students were all very excited to solve puzzles, study fingerprints, study
footprints, and find solid evidence that could be used to solve the case. After finding the culprit, the stu-
dents had a chance to look around the rest of the museum. They had a chance to try on handcuffs, po-
lice uniforms, and, wear prison uniforms to pretend that they were in prison. After our visit, both clas-
ses walked to the neighborhood park and had tons of fun. It was a blast!
Grade 5 Field Trip—Tera Nova Park
The Grade 5 classes attended a field trip to Terra Nova Park on May 13th.
They had a fantastic time and enjoyed a fun-filled day. Students took ad-
vantage of the beautiful weather and explored the different stations around
Terra Nova Park. As well, they had a picnic and loaded up on some delicious
treats! We hope you enjoyed your adventurous day!
