Back to School September 28, 2010
Last year before Junior High
Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines…
Organization, papers, and due dates
Accountability and responsibility
Papers returned on time
Self-motivation: completing the assignments not only for a grade or points, but for the joy of learning and a pursuit of knowledge
Demonstrating effort: e-mailing the teacher with questions, calling friends, studying on the weekends, watching Discovery Channel instead of Cartoon Network, canceling party and sleepovers on the weekdays
Self-control
Correcting behavior or grade with an action rather than a habitual “I am sorry.”
Demanding a good grade and asking what can be done to improve it
Staying during recess or after school if more studying is required
Helping peers to achieve a good grade
Going to bed on time and coming to school every day.
Staying up late on Fridays and Saturday
Coming to school to “sit away” the time
Frequently forgetting papers
Arguing with the teacher (Negotiating is okay)
Pouting, sulking, and bullying
Excellent Behavior
Warning, late for class, homework not completed, papers not signed
Serious Warning
Behavior Note Sent Home
Catching up is hard to do…
Teams often lose points if a student is
not in the classroom on time
Test make-ups are scheduled for recess
or after school
Homework still needs to be turned in
Assignments must be completed
There is NO excuse for tardies…
Absences are excused if a student is sick there is a family emergency
Please try to schedule all doctor’s appointments after 3:00 PM
Family vacation
A trip to Big Bear, San Diego, or Italy…
A cruise to Mexico
Wedding
Birthday
Visiting relatives
A car is in the shop
