• In 2015 all Education Ministers agreed that, from 1 July 2016, the national Literacy
and Numeracy Test will be used as the means to demonstrate that students
completing initial teacher education courses are in the top 30 per cent of the
Australian adult population for personal literacy and numeracy.
• The test applies to those who will complete their programs after July 1, 2016 – must
sit and pass the test prior to completing their course.
• Computer based test – including multiple choice and constructed response
questions
• Bachelor of Education (Honours) and Master of Teaching students: Satisfactory
completion of both components of the test within the first year of enrolment
• DoTS or DoHE – Education stream – students must show evidence that they have
satisfactory completed the tests as one of the criteria required to be met in order to
qualify for a guaranteed entry offer letter to their destination degree.

Entry Requirements
Individual ATAR for each specialisation
• 75+ for single specialisations
• 82+ for double degree courses
VCE Pre-requisites
• Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English
(EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL
• Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion of two units
(any study combination) of General Mathematics or
Mathematical Methods, or Units 3 and 4 – any
mathematics
Double degree courses
• Must meet pre-requisites for partner course

• All universities are required to have a non-academic selection component as of 2018
• Monash has chosen CASPer – along with several other universities
• Online test to help assess suitability for the teaching profession
• The test costs $80 and is one hour duration
• Scores are not released to students, and universities can choose how they use the
scores in their selection process

requirements for your dream course

weighted average mark of 60% in DoTS will be eligible to receive up to one year of credit
