Audience:Anyone who wants to use an avalanche beacon

when traveling in the backcountry in snow covered areas, including but not limited to backcountry skiers and snowboarders, snowmobilers, snow-shoers, ice-climbers, mountaineers

ConditionsLearners will need the following equipment

for taking this course:1. Computer with Internet connection2. Network bandwidth of 1.54Mbps or greater3. Sound card and speakers/headphones

(optional, but recommended)

Degree1. Time limit: learners’ performance time will be

measured in avalanche simulation scenarios2. Range of Accuracy: learners will be tested

on the accuracy of them locating the buried beacon in simulated scenarios as well as their answers to essay questions

3. Proportion of correct responses to multiple choice questions will be measured

4. Qualitative standards: we are expecting a gradual progress in the quality of learners’ performance in simulated scenarios and essay answers
