Children’s Liturgy: During the 8:30 AM Sunday Mass, September through June.
SACRAMENTSSacrament of Penance - In the Chapel on Saturdays from 4:00-4:30 PM, or by appointment.
Sacrament of Baptism - Congratulations! In co-operation with God’s creative love, you have given your child breath and now you wish to give them Real Life through the sacrament of Baptism. You will be your child’s first teacher in the ways of the Faith. To help you prepare for this responsibility, you are expected to participate in a Baptismal Preparation Class.
Pre-Jordan Baptismal Preparation Classes are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM in the school —Prior registration required.
Baptisms are the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month by prior arrangement. Please contact our Director of Religious Education.
Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick - Please notify the Parish Of-fice when a relative is sick or hospitalized. The sacraments of Pen-ance, Eucharist and Anointing of the Sick are a joy and privilege to administer. If you know you are going to the hospital for surgery, please notify Fr. Gary and he will be glad to Anoint you after Mass.
Sacrament of Marriage - The love between a husband and wife im-ages for us the love of Christ and his church. What a powerful and awesome thing is the call to the sacrament of Marriage! To assist couples to enter this sacrament, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires at least six months of formation prior to the reception of the sacrament. Please call the Parish Office to make an appointment to see Fr. Gary to begin your sacramental preparation. Congratula-tions for responding to God’s call to Love.
Sacrament of Holy Orders - Jesus said that we are to pray to the Lord of the harvest, that workers will be sent at harvest time. The best way to promote vocations to the diaconate and priesthood is to invite those men whom you would consider would make a good priest or deacon. If you feel the Lord might be asking you to be a priest or deacon, Fr. Gary will always be available to answer your questions and give direction.

Isaiah provides the context for today’s Gospel ques-tion, still asked by many: “Lord, will only a few be saved?” Through Isaiah, God announces, “I come to gather nations of every language.” How shocking for the Israelites—Gentile foreigners added to God’s cov-enant people as “clean vessels,” so worthy of participat-ing in Israel’s worship that “some of these Gentiles I will take as priests and Levites.”
Now we are ready to hear Jesus’ response: There will be room at the kingdom’s banquet for people “from east and west, from north and south.” Think of our own na-tion’s political, cultural, ethnic, and religious varieties. Hear too Jesus’ “sharpness” toward those presuming admission because he “taught in their streets” (Liturgy of the Word) or because they “ate and drank in his com-pany” (Liturgy of the Eucharist). For Jesus’ disciples, the correct question is not, “Will few be saved?” but “Will I be saved?” The guest list, Jesus leaves no doubt, will hold some surprises, especially for those who presumed they were on it and others were not!
An old anonymous poem presents this Gospel truth in an unforgettable way: “I dreamt death came the other night, / And heaven’s gate swung open wide. / With kindly grace an angel bright / Ushered me inside. / And there, to my astonishment / Stood folks I’d judged and labeled / As quite unfit, of little worth, and spiritu-ally disabled. / Indignant words rose to my lips / But never were set free. / For every face showed stunned surprise— / No one expected me!”
Question of the WeekHow can I, having been taught by the Lord (Liturgy
of the Word) and feasted at the Lord’s table (Liturgy of the Eucharist), become a messenger this week who invites others to the joy of such communion?

Mass Intentionsfor the Week
AUGUST -- Month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners, we consecrate ourselves to thine Immaculate Heart. We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life; all that we have, all that we love, all that we are.
That this act of consecration may be truly efficacious and last-ing, we renew this day at thy feet the promises of our Baptism and our first Holy Communion.
We pledge ourselves to profess courageously and at all times the truths of our holy Faith. We pledge ourselves to keep the command-ments of God and His Church, in particular to keep holy the Lord’s Day. Finally, we promise thee, O glorious Mother of God, to devote ourselves whole-heartedly, through the sovereignty of thine Immac-ulate Heart, to the coming of the kingdom of the Sacred Heart of thine adorable Son, in our own hearts and in those of all men, in our country and in all the world, as in heaven, so on earth.
Amen.

2014 MASS INTENTIONSThe 2014 Mass Intention Book will open September 3. With a
Mass Intention, you can remember someone who has died recently or many years ago, or even remember all your living or deceased family, friends and benefactors at one Mass. But the intentions do not have to be just for the dead: they make beautiful gifts for any special occasion: birthday, anniversary, in thanksgiving for a prayer answered, etc. And to offer an intention for someone who is strug-gling with a serious illness or other life trauma shows you want the Lord to support them in their need.
For more info about how you can offer a Mass Intention, con-tact the Parish Office at 610-933-2110. There are no announced Masses available for 2013 here at St. Basil’s. Please consider one of the other Mass opportunities.
In addition to announced Masses here at St. Basil’s, we have Mass cards for the Pontifical Mission Society, where Mass intentions are greatly appreciated, and St. Charles Borromeo Seminary Memo-rial Enrollments.

A Parent’s Prayer When A Child Leaves HomeGracious God, you blessed me with the gift of my child and
entrusted me with his/her care. Now he/she leaves this home and begins a new life apart from me.
Surround him/her with good people and watch over him/her each day. And let him/her know that I will always be near whenever he/she may need me.
Heal any hurts we may harbor with one another and forgive our failings as we learn to be in a new kind of relationship with each other.
And when the sight of his/her empty room pierces my heart with sadness, may I find comfort in knowing that my child is your child too, filled with your grace and sheltered by your love. Amen.
