WHAT IS AUGMENTED IN-TELLIGENCE?

4

Defini-tion

C o p y r i g h t @ S a m i r A s a f , 2 0 1 7

01• The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally

require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-mak-ing, and translation between languages.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

02• Combining human and artificial intelligence (AI), in order to make managerial decisions.

It requires the application of appropriate AI techniques, and then overlaying that intelli-gence with human input and expertise.

AUGMENTED INTELLIGENCE

03• Intelligence amplification (IA) (also referred to as cognitive augmentation and ma-

chine augmented intelligence) refers to the effective use of information technology in augmenting human intelligence.

History

C o p y r i g h t @ S a m i r A s a f , 2 0 1 7

Aristotle invented syllogistic logic, the first formal deductive reasoning system.LOGICAL REASONING

John McCarthy coined the term "artificial intelligence" as the topic of the Dartmouth Confer-ence, the first conference devoted to the subject. Demonstration of the first running AI pro-gram, the Logic Theorist (LT) written by Allen Newell, J.C. Shaw and Herbert Simon (Carnegie Institute of Technology, now Carnegie Mellon University). See Over the holidays 50 years ago, two scientists hatched artificial intelligence.

MODERN ROOTS

Combining AI and the IoT (Internet of Things) is the best way to unleash the enormous potential that both technologies bring to the enterprise, says jaxenter.com’s Rick Delgado.

• New technologies are changing business models, cre-ating new opportunities, and enabling new innova-tions

• Leveraging Augmented Intelligence allows managers to enhance the quality of both strategy and execution

TECHNOLOGY-ENABLED

• The explosion of big-data leverages both structured and unstructured data for predictive analytics

• Natural Language Processing (NLP) and cognitive analytics on unstructured data provides deeper in-sights for strategy development

DATA-DRIVEN

WHY IS IT IMPOR-TANT?

9

Human Mind is subject to Biases

C o p y r i g h t @ S a m i r A s a f , 2 0 1 7

The tendency for humans to search for, in-terpret, focus on and remember information in a way that confirms one's pre-conceptions

Confirmation Bias

The tendency for unskilled individuals to overesti-mate their own ability and the tendency for ex-

perts to underestimate their own ability. There are many other human biases that we need to be

aware of and try to limit.

Increasing threats to cyber-security

C o p y r i g h t @ S a m i r A s a f , 2 0 1 7

Cyber security, also referred to as information technology security, focuses on protecting computers, networks, programs, and data from unintended or unauthorized

access, change, or destruction.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP)Computer Security Risks is any event or action that could cause a loss of or damage to

computer hardware, software, data, information, or processing capability.
