SCNA Elects New Board Members
and Officers
The Shingle Creek Neighborhood Association
had some terrific accomplishments in 2015-
16. We hosted or co-hosted several events
like Tour de Camden, Little Free Library Con-
certs, STEAM Expo, Shingle Creek Clean-up,
SC Common Ground Community Garden,
Olson Middle School Atrium Garden and work
on keeping residents informed about impor-
tant planning, activities and projects in the
neighborhood.
SCNA wishes to thank the officers and board
members of 2015-2016 for their tireless
work and energies to improve the community!
We thank outgoing board members Daren
Johnson, Ed Morales, and Julie Gillis for shar-
ing their time and talents with us.
We welcome new board members Holly Constant and Justin Schmidt and we congratulate this year's

19 More Single Family Homes Could be
Coming to Humboldt Greenway
The Humboldt Greenway has certainly had it’s
share of ups and downs and rebirths since
breaking ground in the mid 1990’s.
Last summer the partnership of The Homes at
Humboldt Greenway, LLC , a co-development
of MyHomeSource and the Greater Metropoli-
tan Housing Corporation (GHMC) were granted
the opportunity by the Minneapolis City Coun-
cil to redevelop the nearly 100 dormant and vacant sites of the Humboldt Greenway. In late May, SCNA
received a letter from MyHomeSource regarding some a slight change in plans due to a deeper market
study.
In June of last year, the developers proposed 63 new developments of 52 single family and 11 town-
homes inline with the original mix of the Humboldt Greenway. However, in the letter from MyHomeSource
they state that “...a more in depth market study revealed that the detached single family homes in that
area have a stronger demand than townhomes.” As a result, the company will need to replat 49 plots into
19 more traditional single family lots. For more information about this development, contact Nick Reim-
ler at nrreimler@atalusllc.com or 612-455-0705.
SCNA Tiny Fields Committee Chair Larry
Bontreger hands Shingle Creek resident
Dorian his first Tiny Fields vegetable kit
at the start of the premier
2016 growing season!

KIPP North Star Primary opening Fall 2016!
Tours of new wing being held
On Saturday, May 21, KIPP North Star located at in the Shingle Creek
neighborhood at 5034 Oliver Ave N (former Shingle Creek Elementary
School) held an open house event for residents to learn more about
their new primary program that will be beginning this fall along with
the KIPP North Star middle school programs. Attendees were able to
meet school principals, visit classrooms and learn more about the
academic programs, character education, and college preparation
program.
KIPP North Star Primary will open in Fall 2016 and will serve kindergarten students for the first year. The
school will grow by one grade level each year, serving kindergarten to fourth grade by 2020.
At KIPP North Star Primary, believes in preparing students to become innovative leaders. Innovative lead-
ership will require students to be critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and collaborative problem-solvers. By
focusing on individual student strengths, strategic small group learning, and authentic classroom experi-
ences, radiant North Star scholars will climb the mountain to and through college and use their skills and
knowledge to be trailblazers for their communities.
The new KIPP North Star Primary will have some unique qualities. It will have two teachers in each class-
room to support individual student needs. A full-time special education teacher for each grade level to
meet student needs will also help the program. The school and classroom environments work to respect
and celebrate diversity and provide supportive and safe classroom environments that use positive behav-
ior systems. They hold daily small-groups in math and reading on students’ individual levels and the KIPP
through College program supports kids from kindergarten through college graduation. Free transportation
is also provided.
Please contact KIPP North Star’s Shelly Griffin at (612) 401-2550 for more information about the KIPP
North Star School program!
