Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians Financial Services
Grant: $315,150 (2020)
ATNI-FS will provide loans and technical assistance to Native agriculture
producers in the Pacific Northwest. We will leverage our vast network of partners
to deploy capital, offer workshops and trainings, and engage in special projects
to support the Native agriculture landscape and build resilient Native
communities.
Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska
Grant: $50,000 (2020)
Tlingit & Haida will conduct a pilot for community food production through
greenhouses. The harvest will support the elder feeding program and tribal youth
will learn about agriculture through hands-on experience. This project was
conceived in response to the food insecurity faced at the start of the COVID-19
pandemic.
Intertribal Agriculture Council
Grant: $8.9 million (Fast Track), $275,495 (2019) & $939,568 (2020)
With FT funding, IAC expanded technical assistance for Eastern OK and youth as
well as financed the start-up of Akiptan (a Native agriculture CDFI). With 2019
funding, IAC built on their American Indian Foods program by formalizing a
domestic market access process to connect Native producers with business
opportunities. With 2020 funding, IAC will support the Native Farm Bill Coalition
through a Policy Director position and targeted advocacy.
Little Big Horn College
Grant: $100,000 (2020)
LBHC will start a shared equipment program for tribal members to increase
agricultural production on their lands. They will also create an interactive support
system for business planning and credit access for the eventual purchase of
privately owned equipment or participation in a farm equipment cooperative.
Suquamish Indian Tribe
Grant: $400,000 (Fast Track) & $75,000 (2019)
With FT funding, Suquamish purchased a new dive boat that will allow tribal
members to harvest geoduck clams for domestic consumption and export. The
49-foot vessel will sustain the Suquamish tribe for 20 to 30 years. With 2019
funding, Suquamish purchased an oyster scow (boat) to diversify the Tribe’s
seafood business and lead to greater financial security for tribal shellfish
harvesters.
