This two-year degree is designed togive students a foundation in naturalhorsemanship and the ability to applythat knowledge in a practical mannerto train working horses. Graduates willbe prepared for a career in equinebusiness and management, colttraining, assistant trainer and facilitiesmanagement, or allied industries suchas feed, tack and equipment sales. The program is designed to give abroad base for any equine field. Internships are encouraged and willbe available within all the differentdisciplines.

Students seeking admission into thisprogram (a limited number of students areaccepted) will apply to MCC and submit ashort video of him/herself riding andworking on the horse(s) he/she plans tobring to the MCC Equine Program. Equinefaculty members will review videosregarding each applicant's riding skills andhorses' appropriate levels for entrance intothe Equine program. Those students whoare not at the level to start the programcan come to MCC and major in A.S.General Education or related areas, such asAnimal Science or AgriBusiness and takeEQUH 110 Western Equitation, to learnthe basics of riding prior to re-applying tothe Equine program. Only studentsadmitted into the program will have stablespace (two stalls maximum) at the MCCfacilities and be eligible to take the EQUHcourses.

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

Demonstrate how to communicate effectively with their horse and train themto work with livestock;Start a colt from the ground up;Evaluate correct and incorrect information pertaining to the equine industry;Understand basic marketing concepts for a variety of horses;Demonstrate basic horse care and nutrition;Demonstrate how to control all the parts of a horse to give the horse a solidfoundation to go into any discipline, such as reining, reined cow horse,cutting, versatile ranch horse, roping, and trail horse.
