INTRODUCTION

• Band pass filter allows frequencies between two cut-off frequencies while attenuating frequencies outside the cut-off frequencies.

• The Butterworth filter is a type of signal processing filter designed to have as flat a frequency response as possible in the passband.

• Known as a maximally flat magnitude filter

OBJECTIVE• To design, simulate, and fabricate edge coupled filter in microstrip

technology.

• To determine the comparison between measured and simulated results in regarding to microstrip technology.

• To calculate the values of admittance intervals, even and odd mode characteristics impedance.

• To design the circuit using the software called Advanced Design System (ADS).

• To acquire the knowledge on the process of fabrication can be divided into five main processes.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Attenuation versus normalized frequency for maximally flat filter prototypes.

Element value for maximally flat low pass filter prototypes.

METHODOLOGY

Z0J1 = .................................. ...(1)

Z0Jn = for n= 2,3,.....N........(2)

Z0JN+1 = .................................(3)

Even mode characteristics impedance, Z0E = [ 1+ Z0 J +( Z0 J)2 ]

Odd mode characteristics impedance, Z0O = [ 1- Z0 J +( Z0 J)2 ]

DISCUSSION

• The theoretical and measured return loss value same -3dB.

• The measured insertion loss value different from theoretical value. This happens due to losses during soldering process, and cable connection.

CONCLUSION

End of this assignment,

• Able to determine the circuit of microstrip

Band pass filter.

• Able to design band pass filter design using ADS Software
