Ask the Experts:

What is it? Why did we develop it?

What is Ask the Experts?

• One-off student led workshops • Delivered in pairs

• Distils best practise from other models to

deliver similar benefits in a condensed form

Why did we develop Ask the Experts?

• To increase placement uptake

• Desire to offer peer-led support but lack of

time/money/engagement

• To capture our practice in order to scale up support

How do students benefit?

• Leaders receive training and gain

experience

• Participants gain insight and a student perspective ("lived experience")

• Both gain confidence

Planning and training session overview

• What does a good/bad workshop look like?

• Less structured follow up session /drop-in

Beyond the base model

Student feedback and the toolkit

Participant feedback

"It was students talking about their achieved

experiences not just a lecturer telling you about how good it is to do a placement.

We covered a lot and it was very useful

hearing about the students' experience"

"Very informative, good to have advice from

students...makes it feel less daunting"

"How we were able to get personal questions/ worries out"

Leader feedback

"It is nice for students to be able to lead a session without the pressure of having an

academic member of staff there and just sit down and chat to people"

"I learnt a lot on placement with confidence

and presentation and working with other people and this is another way of using those

skills and enhancing them further"
